Cursuri de limba engleza

Va amintiti de articolul zero din limba engleza? De cate ori nu ne-am intrebat cand sa folosim articolul zero, ceea ce inseamna substantivul fara articol, cand sa folosim articolul hotarat ‘the”, cand articolul nehotarat a/an?! Exista reguli clare pe care vi le prezentam mai jos pentru a va ghida dupa ele de cate ori aveti nevoie:

Cum spuneam, sunt trei tipuri de articol in limba engleza (There are 3 types of articles):

1. Zero article – fara articol, sau articol zero

2.Indefinite article: a, an – articolul nedefinit

3. Definite article: the – articolul definit

1. Articolul zero inseamna ca nu folosim “a”, “an” sau “the” (Zero article means we don’t use a, an or the):

 - with people’s names

Alice goes to swim every day.

- with continents (Europe, Asia, Australia)

We travel to Asia once a year because our daughter lives there.

- with countries (Greece, France, Italy) and cities (Paris, London)

I went to Paris last summer and I visited many interesting places.

- with nationalities (Russian, Scottish, Romanian, Chinese)

Chinese people eat a lot of rice.

- with mountains ( Everest, Kilimanjaro, Mont Blanc)

Everest is the highest mountain in the world.

- with sports (tennis, football, basketball)

I played tennis for 3 years.

- with street names

You can get there by driving along Avenue Road.

- cu adjective care nu sunt urmate de un substantiv (with adjectives that are not followed by a noun)

This picture is nice. (but: It is a nice picture)

- cand vorbim despre anumite locuri precum: bed, home, hospital, school and work.

I’m going home because I feel sick.

- with plural nouns when we talk in general

Dogs can be very friendly sometimes!

2. Articolul nedefinit se foloseste astfel:

(The indefinite article can be used):

“a” inainte de cuvinte care incep cu o consoana si “an” inainte de cuvinte care incep cu o vocala

  • with singular nouns, “a” is used before nouns which begin with a consonant and “an” is used which nouns which begin with a vowel.

Examples with “a”:

- I drunk a cup of coffee and I feel great.

- I bought a car which costed $10.000.

Examples with “an”:

- For breakfast I had an apple.

- I want to buy an ice-cream but I am cold so I can’t eat it.

  • with jobs:

Examples with a:

- Tom is a doctor.

- Mary is a good teacher.

Examples with “an”:

- My father was an architect.

- Sam is an actor.

  • Cand inaintea substantivului se afla un adjectiv, tinem cont de litera cu care incepe adjectivul, consoana sau vocala. (when we have an adjective before the noun, the article depends on whether the adjective begins with a consonant or a vowel.)

- without adjective the right form is “an umbrella”, but with adjective we choose “a”:

I bought a red umbrella because I liked how it looked like.

- without adjective we have “a skirt”, with adjective it changes into “an”:

I liked an orange skirt, but it was too expensive to buy it.

  • when we talk about general things – vorbim despre lucruri generale

- There is a piece of cake on your desk.

- That is an interesting movie so you should watch it.

3. Folosim “the” pentru substantive la singular sau plural atunci cand:

(We use “the” with singular and plural nouns when):

- vorbim despre ceva ce am mai mentionat inainte (we talk about something that we have already mentioned):

There is a book on your desk. The book you were looking for is on your desk.

- vorbim despre ceva unic (we talk about something unique):

We could not see the sun today because of the rain.

- we talk about Oceans’ names (the Pacific Ocean),

- rivers (the Seine), seas (the Black Sea),

- deserts (the Arabian Desert, the Sahara),

- mountain ranges (the Carpathians, the Andes),

- and some countries like: the United States, the Netherlands.

- with the names of hotels (6th Avenue Hotel, the Burj Al Arab), cinemas and museums (the Louvre, the National Museum of Western Art)

- with musical instruments:

She was playing the guitar all day long

- with expressions like: in the morning, in the afternoon, at the weekend.
